Ray William Powell, 76, passed away on June 25, 2024, in Hawthorne, Florida. Born on May 19, 1948, in Miami, Florida, Ray was a man known for his straightforward, staunch conservative values and his unwavering support for friends in need. He was a loving and dedicated husband to his wife, Betty, with whom he shared nearly 56 years of marriage.Ray proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970, a period during which he demonstrated his dedication and resilience. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career as a DSL technician with Bell South telecommunications, before retiring and founding BRACTEC Inc., where he thrived as a Certified General Contractor.Beyond his professional life, Ray was an avid chess player, a frequent golfer, and a skilled pool player. He was also a dedicated member of the West Dade Masonic Lodge of Miami, Florida. His hobbies provided him with much joy and were a significant part of his life.Ray is survived by his wife, Betty Powell (Hawthorne, FL); son, John D. Powell (Cameron, NC); daughter and grandson, Tammy (Hampton, VA) and Tyler Crist (Mechanicsville, VA); and sister, Diana Giannotti (Bonifay, FL). He was preceded in death by his parents, Georgia and Frank Powell, and his mother-in-law, Dorothy.A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 3-5pm at Forest Meadows of Gainesville, 725 NW 23rd Ave, Gainesville, FL 32609. Ray's legacy of dedication, both in his personal and professional life, will be fondly remembered by those who knew him. His contributions to his community and country will not be forgotten.
