Mr. Raymond "Ray" E. Gambill, Sr. 84 of Melrose passed away at his home Sunday, December 12, 2021, following an extended illness. He was born September 23, 1937, in Jacksonville to Grover Lee and Hazel Edna (Wilson) Gambill. Mr. Gambill had served in the Air National Guard and retired as a Plumber and Pipefitter from Plumbers and Pipefitter Union Local 234. He attended Eliam Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing, golfing and was an avid Florida State fan. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife of nearly 55 years Patsy Gambill. Survivors include his children Ray E. Gambill, Jr. (Jackie) of Melrose, Carolyn Hodgman (George) of Keystone Heights and Russell E. Gambill (Carol) of Viera. Also left behind is his a sister Paula Whitcomb of Stockton, California and his 93 year old uncle Lamar Wilson of Jacksonville. He was lovingly called "Grandpa" and "Granddaddy" by eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Gambill will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 16, 2021, in Eliam Baptist Church with Pastor Art Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Eliam Cemetery.
