Raymond Alan Meyrowitz

Raymond Alan Meyrowitz, 86, was born in New York City, NY, on May 11, 1931 and passed away on May 26, 2017 in Gainesville, FL. Raymond is preceded in death by his brother, Ed Meyers. He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Meyrowitz, his daughter, Robin Gross, his son, Jimmy Meyrowitz, and two granddaughters, Ellen Gross and Brooke Gross.Ray graduated from Brown University and New York University Law School. He moved to Gainesville in 1980 with Nationwide Insurance as the regional claims attorney. He loved to travel and was able to do so for many years. A passion of his was being a mentor to young adults which he excelled at. He loved theater, opera, concerts, reading, and was also an excellent cook. He was a Gator Booster for many years in football and basketball. Ray has also been particularly active in the Arc of Alachua County and Arc of Florida. He was an officer for the Arc of Alachua County for many years which included serving as their President, Vice President, and on the board of directors as an Officer.A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Chapel in the Meadows, 4100 NW 39th Ave, Gainesville, FL, at 4pm with Rabbi Michael Joseph officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Arc of Alachua County, 3303 NW 83rd Street, Gainesville, FL 32606.
