Obituary

The family is saddened to announce that Richard Slavin Butler, 93, peacefully passed away on May 17, 2026. Born in Philadelphia on February 2, 1933, Richard lived a long and fulfilling life centered around family, friendship, and the simple joys he loved most.

Richard shared 54 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved late wife, Lautrelle Butler. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

For many years, Richard worked as a produce manager in the grocery business, where he was known for his strong work ethic and friendly nature. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending his time fishing, golfing, and dancing. One of his greatest joys was dancing the night away at Moose Lodge #455, where he proudly held the distinction of being the oldest member. He proudly served in the United States Navy.

Richard is survived by his grandson, Allen Shaine Lyles (Cathy); great-grandchildren, Trevor, Evan, and Kayla Lyles; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five nieces and three nephews who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lautrelle Butler; son, Jimmy Lyles; four sisters; and one brother.

Richard will be remembered for his warm spirit, his love of family, and the happiness he found in life's simple pleasures.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 26, 2026 in Moloney-Hewell Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. S., Jacksonville, FL 32216.

A Graveside Service will follow at 3:00 PM in Wayfare Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Statenville, Georgia, with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Veterans Administration or Moose Lodge #455 in Richard's memory.
