Richard Gerald Root

Mr. Richard Gerald Root, 76 of Palatka, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021. Mr. Root was born December 8, 1944 in Norwich, New York to parents Raymond Thomas and Barbara (Martin) Root. He was a longtime machinist who was employed with BF Goodrich in Norwich, NY for over 26 years where he is remembered as a hard worker and loved by his co-workers. Richard loved gardening and yard work, building fires, fishing, listening to audio books and traveling. Although hard headed, Richard was a simple man who loved his family, had a strong faith in God, and was a GREAT COOK! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, James G. Root, brothers, Thomas Root, William Root, and John Root, and his dog, Hidy. Survivors are his daughter, Jennifer Fillio of New York, grandchildren, Derek Root of Palatka and Stephanie Fillio of New York, three great grandchildren, as well as his church family. Burial will take place at a later date at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich, New York.
