Richard Carl Tietze, age 90, was called to his heavenly home on July 27, 2016 in Orange Park, FL. The son of the late Dr. William and Agnes (Kuolt) Tietze, he was born September 17, 1925 in Utica, NY. On June 26, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Utica, NY, he married Elvie Elizabeth Lehtinen, his loving wife of 68 years. He is survived by his wife Elvie, daughters Lynne Wolfgang (Donald), Jan Martin (Raymond), Robin McCarthy (Michael), Major Leslie K Tietze Ret. USAF (Brian Bagans), and son-in-law Bernie Simons. His daughter Dale Tietze Simons and his sister Ruth Tietze Hawksley preceded him in death. Also surviving are his 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.During World War II, Dick enlisted in the Navy while still in high school. He was accepted into the Naval Officers training program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI,) earning a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering in three years. After the war, serving as LTJG in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, he returned to RPI and earned a Masters Degree in Metallurgical Engineering.Dick began his career in 1948 at Revere Copper and Brass, Rome, NY division. He held positions in metallurgical, production, and systems management, and was named Works Manager where he served from 1971-1980. In 1980, he was promoted to Corporate Manager of Energy Planning and Control at Reveres Executive Office in New York City. In 1984, he was named National Industrial Energy Manager of the Year. He retired from Revere in 1985 and continued his career in energy and industrial consulting. Service to community was an integral part of his life. Dick was recognized by the Rome Chamber of Commerce, Rome Family Y, United Way and the American Red Cross in Rome NY for his service. In retirement, he also became a trained, volunteer fireman at Fripp Island, SC. He was a long time member of the Brantingham Lake Community Association and the RPI Alumni Club He was a faithful and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Utica, NY, St. Johns Lutheran Church, Rome NY, Trinity Lutheran Church, Stamford, CT, St. Johns Lutheran Church, Beaufort, SC, and most recently, Advent l Lutheran Church, Orange Park, FL. He and Elvie have been summer residents at Brantingham Lake, NY for 60 years. He was devoted to his family and loved beyond measure.A memorial service will be held August 6, 2016, 11:00 AM at Advent Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at a later date at the convenience of the family at Rome Cemetery, Rome, NY with military honors.
