Robert E. Lee Hypes Jr.

A memorial service for Robert E. Lee Hypes, Jr., will be held on Saturday November 2, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South Jacksonville, Florida 32216 with Rev Glenn Hand officiating.Robert was born in Princeton, West Virginia on June 4, 1955 but he was a lifelong resident of Jacksonville. He passed away on October 22, 2019 in Jacksonville, FL at the age of 64.He was preceded in death by his Father Robert E.Lee Hypes, Sr., his Mother Stella Skeens and his brother Billy Spradlin.Robert is survived by his loving companion Lois Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; 3 children: Son Robert Hypes of Carabelle, FL; Daughter Heather Carter (Kevin) of Douglas, GA.; Daughter Carrie Hypes of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by his Grandchildren: Evan Painter of Deleware, Haley Spires of Douglas, GA, Kaylani Newkirk, & Nevaeh Newkirk both of Jacksonville,FL; Siblings: Alice Otey of Princeton, West Virgina; Rincey Eanes of Roanoke, West Virgina; Janice Key of Orange Park, Fl; Jimmy Spradlin (Brenda), Ricky Hypes (Teena), and Carol Dasher all of Jacksonville, Fl; and several cousins, nieces & nephews.Robert was a 1973 graduate of Englewood High School. He was a Master Carpenter. He was very talented and was one of the best carpenters in North Florida. He worked in the trim industry for 48 years. He recently retired from R&T Trim Company. He was a very hard working man and loved the work that he did. In his spare time he enjoyed watching football. He was one of the Florida Gators biggest fans. He was a true sportsman and enjoyed many sports. He played softball for many years on a mens league. He also bowled on a league at Jax Lanes for over 35 years. He could throw some darts too! He loved fishing, grilling, and working in his garden but his greatest love of all was his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
