Robert Iver Allen, age 86, passed away on Monday November 24, 2014 in Palatka. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday November 29, 2014 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S., with Pastor Phil Beasley officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Mr. Allen was born in Barretts, Georgia on October 12, 1928 to Carl & Cleo Allen and came to Jacksonville shortly after his birth when the family moved here. Robert was a proud veteran of the both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and WWII. Mr. Allen retired from the W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor company after serving over 30 years. He worked as a sprinkler fitter and was a member of Sprinkler Fitters U. A., Local 821. His favorite past time was helping his neighbors and taking care of his dogs. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pearl M. Allen; a daughter, Nancy Geisendorff & a son, Leon Maples. He is survived by 3 sons, Russell Maples, Phillip Cheshire (Tammy) & Jerry Cheshire (Chris); a daughter Roberta "Bobbie" Boshell (Butch); a brother, James Allen; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and by many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
