Mr. Robert M. Swanson age 60 of Jacksonville passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 7, 2023. He was born March 26, 1963, at NAS-Jax to Eldon and Georgianna (Calver) Swanson. Robert proudly served in the United States Army for 17 years before beginning a 26 year career as a deputy with the Jacksonville Sheriffs Office. He earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Florida where he proudly displayed his lovely tenor voice across the hallowed halls and athletic venues. He was a Christian man who shared in his musical talents with his church family. He is known for his love of and collecting Classic Cars, reading and studying history and military campaigns, and spending time in the outdoors. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother Dr. George Swanson. Robert leaves behind to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 32 years Catherine (Rutledge) Swanson and their son Benjamin Swanson both of Jacksonville; five siblings Carroll Shephard of Tampa, Eldon Carl (Dee) Swanson of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Joanne (Dr. Bud) Maddocks of Queensbury, New York, Dianne (Dr. John) Gaines of St. Augustine, and Dr. Richard (Lynn) Swanson of Homosassa Springs. Also left behind are 17 nieces and nephews that he adored and called the "Calver Clan". A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
