Obituary

Robert Stewart "Doc" Mullins age 87 of Starke passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 at Shands Starke. Doc was born on October 25, 1927 in Macon, Georgia and grew up in Ocala. He served in the United States Navy and graduated from Auburn University with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. Doctor Mullins moved to Starke in 1954 and retired in 2010 after providing 55 years of small and large animal veterinary medicine to the local community. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Starke, the American Legion post 56, the Florida Veterinary Association, the local Rotary Club where he served as past president, served on the Clay Electric Cooperative Board of Directors for over 20 years, and was active with the local Boy Scouts serving as Charter Representative for Troop 70. Doc was Potentate of the Morocco Shrine Temple in Jacksonville, was a member and past Master of the Bradford Lodge #35 of F.&A.M., and earned a White Hat with the Scottish Rite. Preceding him in death were his parents George W. and Carolyn (Graham) Mullins and his sister Marguerite Howell. Survivors are: his wife of 65 years Laurie Virginia (Izlar) Mullins of Starke, daughter: Patty Williams (Gaylon) of Ocala, Sons: Robert Stewart Mullins, Jr. (Terri) of Fort Pierce, and Glenn W. Mullins (Dianne) of Orlando, brother: George "Bo" Mullins, Jr. of Winter Haven, nieces: Lynn Parks (David) of Roan Mountain, TN and Kay Izlar of Missoula, MT, nephew: Lonny Izlar (Bobbi) of Clermont. He is also survived by grandchildren: Lauren Mullins, Ashley Mullins, Bobby Mullins, III, Rachel Mullins, Wesley Mullins, Chip Williams, Bo Williams, Luke Izlar, Britta Izlar, Blaire Izlar, Triston Izlar, Dawn Parlin, and Josh Peddle, three great grandchildren, and his brother-in-law: Dixie Howell. The family will receive friends at the FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with funeral services beginning at 11 oclock. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Ocala. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 157, Starke, FL 32091.
