Obituary

Robert D. Ruff, 94, peacefully passed away Sunday, January 2, 2022. He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Dennis) and Jeanmarie (Robert), daughter-in-law Kristie, his grandchildren, Topher (Jessi), Anna-Kate, and Daniel, his great-grandchildren, Liam and Simon, and friend, Gale Booi. He is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Curtis, and his wife, Mary Frances.Bob wore many hats during his lifetime. It was Army Green when served his country during World War II, and a khaki cap as a Boy Scoutmaster. He would don his Captains hat while on his boat. Bob probably didnt wear a green eye shade as a Clerk for the Railroad, but his children did think he wrote with a quill and ink bottle while in school. After retiring from the Railroad, he could be found cutting yards or walking the neighborhood in a Panama hat. Of all the hats he wore, his favorite was his Stetson. That was his family hat. While Bob loved to wear his hats, he was never afraid to take one off, wipe his brow, and head into any problem to help those he loved! He could teach you how to drive, show you the best way to tie a knot, or just listen when you talked. He knew how to build a rabbit hutch and a boat. His love of gardening filled his backyard with more plants than most people can imagine.Friends became family when rough seas were encountered. Bobs home became a shelter in times of need. The only time he didnt welcome his children and all their friends into the house was Halloween, when he stood as gatekeeper at the front door, requiring a joke, a song, or a dance before admittance or candy was granted. In his later years, he helped his friends and neighbors, and was lovingly referred to as the mayor of the street. While his vision slowly left him, his mind never failed him. He was constantly asking questions that no one else would have thought of.Bob Ruff was a kind, generous, and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. All who knew him will be at peace with his last words, "Im good." We love you, Bobert. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in Bobs name to St. Josephs Indian School, PO Box 326, Chamberlain, SD 57326. Thank you!.There are no gallery images.
