A funeral service for Robert Leonard Tavernier, 98 of Jax, FL will be held on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017 at 1PM in the Chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South, Jax, FL 32216 with Elder Cliff Bartley officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. He was born in Oberlin, OH to Frank and Lillian Tavernier, he was the youngest of five children. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, four siblings and his wife of forty six years Mrs. Naomi "Sarah" Tavernier. He is survived by two daughters; Carol Wilks of Jax, FL and Judi Orbus of Reseda, CA, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church; and he retired from the Jacksonville YMCA after twenty-five years of faithful service.
