Robert Daniel Thomas

Robert "Bob" Daniel Thomas, 90, passed away on May 12, 2016. Mr. Thomas was born in Savannah, Georgia and was a resident of Jacksonville, Florida since 1927. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Jane Thomas and 2 grandchildren, Spring Marie Thomas and Robert Daniel Thomas; Survivors include his son, Robert C. Thomas; daughters, Linda T. Matola, Sandra Rentfrow (Don), Mary Griffin (Doyle), Paige Savitz (Chris) and Debbie Johnson (Bill); 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters. He spent many of his transportation years with John G. Lane Lines as a truck driver and dispatcher, eventually retiring from Sales Manager position at The Barn/Ponsells Furniture Store. He loved to play poker and frequented Best Bets at Orange Park Kennel Club. He enjoyed football, fishing, gardening and spending time with friends, family and his dog, Reba. He was a member of Riverside Masonic Lodge and was raised to Master Mason in 1979. He was an active member of the former Main Street Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at North Jacksonville Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Coram officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the church.
