Rodney Jermaine
Coar
Sep 4, 1989 — Apr 7, 2026
Rodney Coar, 36, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on April 7th, 2026. Affectionately known as "Bookie," Rodney was a bright and gentle soul whose joyful spirit and unforgettable smile brought light wherever he went. His presence had a way of softening hearts, lifting spirits, and reminding everyone around him of the beauty in simple, genuine love. Rodney attended the ARC Day Program daily, where he was embraced by dedicated staff, friends, and caretakers who enriched his life with patience, compassion, and unwavering support.
Rodney is lovingly survived by his parents, Rodney and Tamara Coar, who cherished him deeply. He leaves behind his siblings, each of whom held a special place in his heart: his big sister Shirley "Courtney" Whitford; his younger brother Rico Coar; his second youngest sister Kayla Coar; his little brother Roddez Coar; and his third youngest sister Keyera Coar. Rodney's bond with his family was pure and powerful, and he carried their love with him every day. He is also survived by his brothers‑in‑law,
Joelys Coar and Cordell Whitford Sr., who stood proudly as part of his extended circle of love.
Rodney's memory continues through his cherished niece and nephews—Jahbari Reynolds Jr., Cordale Whitford Jr., Storm Whitford, and Aladdin Whitford—each of whom brought him joy and laughter. His face lit up whenever they were near.
He is further survived by his grandmother, Shirley Kelly Foster, and a devoted circle of aunts: Brandy Johnson, Conswella Johnson Jones, Ida Marie Kelly, Adrian Walker, Sarai Walker, and Rhonda Coar Rawls. His uncles—Jermaine Johnson, Fred Jones, Fredrick Johnson, Blake Rawls Sr., and Ernest Walker —also hold his memory close. Rodney's life was surrounded by a large and loving family of cousins, including Janae' Reid, Kalice Reid, Asia Reid, Aries Moore, Andre Moore, Brielle Rawls, Blake Rawls Jr.,
Willie Reid, Kenyatta Reid, Vance Reid, Ernest Walker, Leanard Walker, Satoria Cromwell, and Viance' Reid, all of whom mourn his passing and celebrate the joy he brought into their lives.
Rodney was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Marian Walker; his grandmother, Beatrice James; and his grandfather, Ronald Coar. We find comfort in knowing they now welcome him home with open arms, surrounding him with the same love he gave so freely on earth. Beyond his family, Rodney is deeply missed by his Successful Steps Unlimited family, who walked beside him with dedication, patience, and heartfelt care. Their support shaped his journey in meaningful ways,
and they continue to honor his memory with profound affection.
Rodney's life was a testament to love in its purest form—uncomplicated, sincere, and overflowing. Though his time here was far too short, the warmth he shared, the smiles he sparked, and the love he gave will continue to echo through every heart he touched.
