Rodney Allen Fleming, (Big Rod) as he was known by his friends, was born July 24, 1953 in Ohio and passed away Monday October 6, 2014 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Rod enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in January 1974 and was honorably discharged in January 1978. Returning to Jacksonville, he worked for a short time at Quasar before becoming a U.S. Postal Worker. In February 1980 he married his wife Glenna. They had no children together, but her daughter Kelli soon became "his" daughter too. Rod obtained an associate degree in Metal Arts from F.C.C.J. Welding became his passion. Rod loved fishing with his Dad even if they didn't get a bite. Spending time with his Dad was most important to him. In the past few years health concerns no longer permitted fishing, so his focus was turned to his granddaughter McKenna. He loved her so very much. Rod retired from the U.S. Postal Service in February, 2014. Rod is survived by his wife Glenna, daughter Kelli Dix, his father Ted (Linda) Fleming, sister Sandy (Nile) Dixon, most beloved granddaughter McKenna, nephew Sam (Lindsay) Heath, Uncle Robert Fleming, his mother-in-law Louise Smith, several cousins and many close friends. Rod was predeceased by his mother, Martha Fleming. Rod-you will be remembered always.
