Obituary

Roger Neal Sanderson, 76, of Keystone Heights, FL, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 2, 2022.Roger was born on August 15, 1946 to Margaret & Harley Sanderson in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and spent his childhood in Wilton Manors, FL. Shortly after graduating from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1964, he was drafted to the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War for two years. After returning from Vietnam, he began working at Martins Yamaha in Ft. Lauderdale, a motorcycle dealership. Having grown up around his father who was a motorcycle mechanic himself and the owner of Mid-River Sales and Service, he was introduced to motorcycles at an early age. From then on, motorcycles were his passion, second only to his family. In February of 1975, Roger met Debbie, and they were married in May of the same year. Upon the death of his father, he inherited the motorcycle repair business and relocated to Sylva, NC with his wife to continue the legacy. They welcomed their first child, Jason, in March of 1977 and their daughter, Angela, was born in December of 1981. In 1984, Roger and his family moved to Keystone Heights, FL and opened Sandersons Cycle Repair in Gainesville. After 32 successful years, Roger made the difficult decision to close the business and retire.During his retirement, Roger spent his days checking in with all his friends and reconnecting with many from the past. Of course, his passion for motorcycles never ceased and in his home garage, he rebuilt, nearly from the ground up, a Harley-Davidson for a friend. It was his final build; perhaps what would come to be the perfect ending to his legacy. Roger will be remembered for his endless willingness to help others, the countless stories he told, and all of the friends he made along his journey.Roger was preceded in death by his father, Harley Sanderson, his mother, Margaret Sanderson Pittman, and his oldest brother, John Gordon Sanderson. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Debbie Sanderson; his older brother, Walter (Helen) Sanderson of Barnesville, GA; his niece Paige (Lars) Sanderson Swenson of CO; his son, Jason (Vanessa) Sanderson of Jacksonville, FL; his daughter Angela (Bill) Hanssen of Gainesville, FL; his grandchildren, Jason Sanderson II, Jakob Hanssen, and Annalise Sanderson; and last, but most certainly not least, his cherished Blenheim Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Bridget.A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Keystone Heights, FL on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 11:00 am, and the family will receive friends and relatives prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 am.
