Obituary

Mr. Roger Franklin Skelton age 82 of Melrose passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at Haven Hospice Custead Care Center in Orange Park. He was born in Remerton, Georgia June 29, 1931 to the late James and Edna (McGuryt) Skelton, and had been a truck driver for Roadway before retiring. Along with being a longtime resident of the area, Mr. Skelton also began the Truck Driving course which is offered through the Starke Vocational School. He was a member of the Teamster Union, Keystone United Methodist Church, Melrose Masonic Lodge, and the Keystone Shrine Club where he was the "Chief" of the Keystone K.O.P.S.. Mr. Skelton was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 plus years, Margaret Katherine and his daughter, Vickie Hester. Survivors are his wife of 12 years, Margaret Nelson, children; Theresa Cooley, husband Charles of Jacksonville, Joylynn Lane, husband James G. of Middleburg, Step-sons; Larry Pullo, wife Dawn of Bostwick, Randy Pullo of Ponte Vedra, and a son-in-law, Randy Hester of Green Cove Springs. Also left behind are two sisters; Margaret Lewis of Claxton, Georgia, Jackie Vincent of Alabama, Georgia, five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, January 22, 2014 between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m. A celebration of life will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014 in the Keystone United Methodist Church with Dr. Tom Farmer officiating, and burial following at 2:00 p.m. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens.
