Rose Mary Kay (née Szabo), age 71, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with health issues.
Rose was born on May 28, 1954, in Ohio. She later made her home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and most recently resided in Keystone Heights, Florida, where she spent her final years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William F. Kay, who lived in both Florida and Ohio, and by her sister, Grace Bond, of Ohio.
Rose is survived by her loving children: Heather Carl (née Urig); Daniel Kay; Abigail Kay-Silva; and Tami Kay-Rodery, as well as many other "adopted children" she welcomed into her life and heart. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Douglas Carl, husband of Heather Carl. She was a proud grandmother to Frank Kay, Gabriella Silva, Stetson Lewis, Sophia Silva, and Kaiden Malone. She is also survived by her sister, Laura Ratcliff (née Szabo), of Ohio, and by her beloved nieces and nephew, who held a special place in her life.
Rose had a spirited and passionate personality, known for her strong opinions, quick wit, and a flair for the unexpected that kept those around her on their toes. She lived life boldly and unapologetically, leaving a lasting impression wherever she went. She found great joy in gardening and loved her many dogs, who were a constant source of companionship and comfort throughout her life.
Professionally, Rose worked for many years as a bartender before later dedicating herself to helping others as a urology medical assistant, a role she carried out with compassion and care.
She will be remembered for her strength, resilience, and unmistakable individuality. Rose is also lovingly remembered by her companion at the end of her life, Victor Hudson, whose presence brought her comfort and care.
There will be no formal services. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rose's life in their own way, honoring her memory through personal reflections, shared stories, or acts of kindness.
