Royce Eudora Hamilton, age 92, passed away on August 23, 2022.She was born on the Winn family farm in Patterson, GA on May 21, 1930 to the late James Alonzo Credle and Estelle (Winn) Credle. She moved to Jacksonville with her parents in about 1939, and attended Hogan Spring Glen Elementary School, Dupont Middle School, and graduated from Landon High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Dennis Allen Hamilton Sr., both graduating in 1948 and marrying on June 30, 1951.In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Dennis Allen Hamilton Sr., her sisters, Barbara Janie Credle and Jimmie Lee Peggy (Credle) Malkewitz, and brother-in-law John Malkewitz. She is survived by sons James Allan Hamilton, Timothy Allan Hamilton, Dennis Allan Hamilton Jr. (Scott B. Dowman); grandchildren James Chadwick Hamilton, Nicholas Carson Hamilton, Jordan Bryce Hamilton and Hadleigh Morgan Hamilton; nieces Melinda Abigail Malkewitz (Christopher Banks) and Maria Estelle (Malkewitz) Riebe (John); cousins Marta Winters and Pam Roberts, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends and neighbors.Over the years, more than one friend or family member has remarked that she loved a good conversation, whether on the phone or in person. When she called, you best have been prepared for a long talk. So much so that her father once remarked that "She could talk a buzzard off of a garbage truck!" You should also know that - in her 92 years - she never had a drivers license, and thus never drove (legally), most often riding shotgun with Grandma Estelle. She was also stylish throughout all fashion periods, and made sure that her three sons were properly attired, once even sewing them matching sport coats and bow ties.According to one longtime family friend, Bennett Hodge, she was a PTA leader and homeroom mother extraordinaire, organizing, planning and managing everything from bake sales to fall carnivals. She was considered a second mom by many of her sons friends, and was an excellent cook, a so-so seamstress (though those hand-sewn jackets were awfully snazzy), and a devoted family caretaker, a trait she passed to her middle son, Tim, who selflessly cared for her in the final years of her life.Visitation will be at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. S., Friday, August 26, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd., Saturday, August 27, 2022, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers (though purple was her favorite color), donations may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital or Wolfson Childrens Hospital.
