Russell Nix

Russell Nix, 80, of Bronson, passed away on September 9, 2020 in Gainesville, Fl. Visitation will be held at Forest Meadows Funeral Home on September 12, 2020 at 1:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at Forest Meadows Funeral Home on September 12, 2020 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Robert Pearce of Union Baptist officiating. Forest Meadows Funeral Home are handling the funeral arrangements. Russell was born in Peoria, Illinois to Marion Nix and Floyd Covington on December 19, 1939. He grew up in Springfield, IL where he grew up and worked on his family farm. Russell enlisted in the National Guard in 1956 at the age of 17 and later served in the Army from 1957 to 1962 and was proud to be a veteran. He retired from Levy County Parks and Recreations,where he was the care-taker of Blue Springs Park in Bronson, Florida after 22 years. Russell contributed to numerous children's charities. He enjoyedriding motorcycles, listening to manydifferent genres of music, reminiscing about his time on his family farm and while in Germany and was a classic television aficionado. Russell is preceded in death by his mothers Marion Vititoe of Peoria, Il., and Grace Branson of Ft. Meyers, FL, father Albert "Brownie" Branson of Fort Meyers, FL, brothers, Joe and Murray Vititoe, and sister Louise Vititoe of Illinois. Russell is survived by his brother, Floyd Vititoe Jr., sons, Dale Nix, Ben Sheppard, Chris Burger, Kenny Newburn, and Joe Nix, daughters, Gail Nix and Vicky Raley, grandchildren Hannah Nix, Zoe Stocco, Austin Sheppard, Patrick Burger, Alyssa Burger, Eileen Burger, Bo Benton, Tony Benton, Tabitha Benton, Tiffany Raley, James Raley, Destiny and Josiah Newburn and 14 great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Vietnam Veterans of America,vva.org/donate.
