Ruth Knight

KNIGHT: Ruth Harms Knight slipped peacefully into eternity on May 14, 2017 at her home in Jacksonville, FL. She joined her sweetheart of 53 years, Howard, and her two children, Patti and Mike Knight. She spent her final days surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born on June 5, 1924 in Savannah, GA to Herman and Lillian Harms, but "moved to Florida as soon as she was old enough to know better," as she always said. She spent her early childhood in San Marco and graduated early from Landon High School, and as everyone knows, was a proud member of the Landon Lionettes. Soon after high school, she joined the Womens Army Corps to serve her country during WWII. She became a U.S. Army wife on June 1, 1947. In her 53 years with Howard, they raised three children, two grandchildren, made lifelong friends, and traveled the world together. Second to caring for her family, Ruth enjoyed fishing, playing golf, shrimping off the dock, gardening, and crafting. She was a longtime, faithful member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. Ruth is survived by her son, Tim, her daughters Kim and Brenna, her grandsons Mike, David, Brian, and Patrick, nine great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and her two sisters Lillian and Margaret. A viewing is scheduled for May 17, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, located at 4747 N. Main St. in Jacksonville. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the long, full life of Ruth.
