Ruth Craig Johnson McClure Ruth Craig Johnson McClure, beloved mother and grandmother, died peacefully Thursday, April 25. A lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Ruth was born on May 3, 1922 to Ruth Craig Johnson and James Raleigh Johnson. Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, James Lawson McClure, Sr., her grandson, Dylan White, and brother Richard Johnson. She is survived by her three children: Jim (Judy) McClure, Judy (Dan) Serritella, and Mindy (Billy) White; five grandchildren: Jamey McClure, Chelle McClure, Craig (Halle) Serritella, Maggie (Nathan) Tennant and Hans Wahl; five great-grandchildren: Max and Milly Serritella and Ian, Ben and Madeleine Tennant. Ruth also is survived by her brothers Raleigh Johnson and Bob (Vi) Johnson, along with many cousins, brothers and sisters-in law, nieces, nephews, and friends.Ruth graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and attended Florida State College for Women in the nursing program. During WWII she met her husband, Jim, a handsome Navy officer and the love of her life. Ruth was an active member of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. She loved her church friends and members of her Circle and, in later years, many special friends and staff at her retirement community. Ruth was an avid bridge and bingo player, loved to travel and even at the age of 90 emailed and skyped friends and family. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.The family will receive visitors at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. on Monday, April 29 from 6-8pm. The service will be at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church 2137 Hendricks Ave. on Tuesday, April 30 at 10am. The family wishes to thank Community Hospice of Northeast Florida and her caregivers at Emeritus of Mandarin for their loving care.
