Samuel David Cox of Gainesville went home to be with the Lord, July 24, 2012.He was born September 1, 1934 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was the son of Hobert D. Cox and Edna Cox Sampson.David graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University, where he was a member of the Bison Glee Club.He served in the U.S. Navy as a photographic navigator and achieved the rank of Lt. Commander. While he was in the Navy he was a tenor soloist in the U.S. Navy Choir.David graduated from the University of Florida, College of Law in 1968 and practiced law in Gainesville for 42 years.He was a loyal Gator fan and a member of the Gainesville Quarterback Club. He met his wife Patsy on a blind date at a FSU/UF football game. They had been planning a big 50th wedding anniversary celebration this August.He was very active in serving the Lord as a member of The Family Church of Gainesville, as a Deacon and usher. He was also the International Director of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Fellowship International. David served the Gainesville community as President of the Board of the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank.He was preceded in death by his father, Hobert D. Cox, his mother Edna Cox Sampson, his stepfather, Jack Sampson.He is survived by his wife, Patsy Cox, daughter, Delane Olson (Kent), son, David Cox, Jr.(Amy), brother, Hobert D. Cox Jr. (Joanne), sister, Betty Chaney (Gilbert), stepmother, Freda Cox Castor, stepbrothers, Paul Cox(Carol) and Bryan Cox, stepsisters, Sue Garrison(John), Retha McCutheon, and Nancy Horne, grandchildren, Tyler Olson, Leigh Ann Olson, Erik Olson, Caroline Olson, Haydon Cox, and Sara Beth Cox.In Lieu of flowers you may honor David with a charitable donation to the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank (325 NW 10th Avenue,Gainesville, FL 32601) or The Family Church Mission Fund.The family will receive friends at a visitation on Friday, July 27, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Ave., Gainesville.Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at The Family Church, 2022 S.W. 122nd Street, Gainesville.Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
