Obituary

Sandra P. Mixson, 91, of Gainesville, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 in Gainesville, Florida. Visitation will be held at Servants of Christ Anglican Church on August 7th at 10am. Funeral service will be held directly following visitation at Servants of Christ Anglican Church on August 7th at 11am with Reverend David Trautman officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows Cemetery. Forest Meadows Funeral Home is handling the funeral arrangements. Sandra was born in Monroe, North Carolina, to Monroe and Mary Louise Penegar on December 9th, 1932. She graduated from Clearwater High School in 1951 and Brevard Junior College in 1966. Sandra went on to earn a Bachelor of Design in Art Education in 1969 from the University of Florida. Her career was varied. Sandra was a model and an actress before co-owning Shady Lane Nursery in Clearwater, Florida, with her first husband, Otis Lee. Later, Sandra worked in Levy County as a mental health counselor, and ultimately retired as a Fine Arts teacher at Williston High School in Levy County. In 1954, Sandra was crowned Miss Clearwater. She was named Queen of the Florida State Junior Cattlemen Association as well as Miss Florida Cowgirl that same year. Most importantly, Sandra dedicated her life to her faith. She was a devout Christian and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a faithful tither, went on mission trips internationally, served on various church committees over the years, and was a devoted prayer warrior with her friends and within church groups. Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and Mary Louise Penegar, her first husband, Otis Lee, and her second husband, J.B. Mixson. Sandra is survived by her son, Christopher Lee of Gainesville, Florida, her granddaughter Katelyn Lee of Charlotte, North Carolina, siblings Pam Geissinger of Coral Springs, Florida, Linda Vannatta of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Michael McGilvary of Safety Harbor, Florida.
