Sarah Lou Muir Wells

Mrs. Sarah Lou Muir Wells, age 95, of Melrose passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. She was born November 23, 1924, in Knoxville, Tennessee to Carl L. and Annie (Marler) Wells. Sarah Lou was a retired Medical Doctor at one time having a practice in Starke and Keystone Heights. She attended Florida State University and was in the first class with coed students. She then earned her Medical Degree from the University of Miami and began her longtime career as a doctor. Sarah Lou lived an amazing fulfilled life that included pitching in the womans baseball league which was the basis for the movie A League of Their Own; she even had earned her piolets license and at one time owned three airplanes. Sarah Lou was on the Melrose Water Board of Directors and many years ago served as the Coroner for Putnam County. She was always actively involved in her community and wouldnt let anything get in her way. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Lewis Muir. Sarah Lou leaves behind her longtime and close friends Rick Tisdale and his family along with Gloria Sheaffer all of Melrose. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2020, at Eliam Cemetery in Melrose.
