A graveside service for Mr. Sheldon M. Blattner will be held in the New Center Cemetery, 200 East 43rd Street Jacksonville, Florida 32208 on Monday December 20th at 11:00 a.m. with Rabbi Shira Rosenblum officiating. Sheldon will be laid to rest next to his wife of 65 years, Irma Blattner, who preceded him in death.Sheldon was born on August 2, 1930 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a celebrated athlete in his youth and earned the nickname "Herky," (Hercules). He was accomplished in multiple sports and earned many trophies for his athletic prowess.He was a hard worker and was in the scrap metal business for the majority of his life. He founded Blattner Metals / Metal Recyclers in 1978, and continued to manage the day-to-day operations until the age of 89.Sheldon was devoted to his family and friends, and was always generous with those less fortunate. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and his great sense of humor.Sheldon was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Anna Blattner and brother Myron Blattner.Sheldon is survived by his son Craig D. Blattner and his wife Jody of Longwood, FL, and his daughter Gail B. Kaplan and her husband Larry of Sandy, UT. He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael Blattner (Jennifer), Carly Haslett (Marshall), Allie Blattner, David Kaplan, Daniel Kaplan and Nathan Kaplan. Great-grandchildren are Brenna Blattner, Jacob Blattner, Levi Haslett and Isla Haslett.Contributions in Sheldons memory can be made to River Garden Hebrew Home, the Jacksonville Jewish Center or Vitas Hospice.Arrangements are under the direction of George H.
