Shirley Young Brown age 82 of Micanopy, Florida passed away at her residence on November 9, 2018. Mrs. Brown was born in Claremore, OK and moved to Ontario, CA as a child. She met her husband, Glen Brown on a blind date while he was stationed at the naval base in Corona, CA. They were married in Yuma, AZ on August 19, 1955. After Glen's services in the Navy they moved to Jacksonville, FL and later Altamonte Springs, FL, where they raised 5 children and later began a career as an operator at Southern Bell. Glen and Shirley settled in Micanopy, FL. After retiring they enjoyed traveled around the United States including Alaska in their RV. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Young, sister, Barbara Smolar, two sons, Glen Randall and Duane Frank Brown and a son-in-law, Richard Claire Solze. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Glen Middleton Brown, daughters, Connie (Simeon) Friday, Lawrence, KS, Karen Herring, Irmo, SC and Carol Solze, Starke, FL. Grandchildren, Raffina Thompson, Heather Andrews, Matthew (Lyndsey) Herring, Lindsey Solze, James Brown, Anna (Tommy) Calero, Sara (Johnnie) Morton and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Highland Missionary Baptist Church in Gainesville with Pastor Rick Hartman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will take place at Old Providence Cemetery in Lake Butler following services.
