Shirley W. Canady, 81, of Keystone Heights passed away on March 16, 2017, surrounded by her children. She was born on November 15, 1935 to Jesse and Era Wheeler in Buford, Georgia. She attended Buford High School, graduating as class Valedictorian. She won the title of Miss Buford in 1951 and later became the first winner of the Miss Gwinnett County Pageant in 1955. While attending Mercer, where she was a cheerleading captain and member of Chi Omega sorority, she met the love of her life, Bob Canady. After graduating from Mercer University in 1957, she began a career in teaching that would span more than 30 years and included shaping the lives of hundreds of first graders in Alaska, Florida, and Georgia. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert (Bob) Canady. She is survived by her two sons and one daughter: Glenn Canady of Keystone Heights, FL, Lori Canady Camp and her husband Rob of Mesquite, Nevada, and Mark Canady and wife Stephanie of Austin, TX. Her grandchildren are Liam and Caitriona Camp and Owen Canady. She leaves behind a loving and extended family of nieces, nephews, and a large group of friends. A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, March 19th at 1:30 PM at Keystone Heights Cemetery on Hwy 100.
