Shirley C. Douglas, passed away on May 26, 2023 at 11:15am after a two-year battle with Dementia. Her final moments were spent peacefully in her home in Jacksonville FL, surrounded by family.Shirley married William H. Douglas Jr. (deceased 1999) from Gainesville, Florida in 1949 and has three surviving children, William H. Douglas III residing in St. Augustine Beach, Florida, Robert Carl Douglas residing in Glen St. Mary, Florida, and Charles Richard Douglas residing in Callahan, Florida. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. And one black female cat with four white paws named "Socks".Shirley was born April 15, 1931 in High Springs Florida to Clarence C. Cothran and Laura (Croft) Cothran. She attended High Springs High School and graduated in 1949. She completed three years of college credit from North Florida University in Business Administration.She believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon for several years. Shirley worked as Executive Secretary at Copeland Sausage Company in Alachua, Florida and Legal Secretary for a Jacksonville law firm before retiring. Her interests were basketball as a youth and water skiing and golf as an adult. She also enjoyed Genealogy and volunteered in the public library in assisting others conduct genealogy research.Shirley will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing.A private ceremony will be held at the High Springs Cemetery in High Springs Florida on June 2, 2023 at 3pm.
