Mrs. Sonia T. Seigler, age 71, of Melrose passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Roberts Care Center in Palatka. She was born January 20, 1943 in Ybor City (Tampa) to the late Carl M. Hunter and Sara Alma (Clardy) Hunter Lagassee Nelson and was a 1960 graduate of Bradford High School. Prior to her retirement, she was an elementary school and middle school teacher in Putnam County as well as the President of the Teachers Union in Putnam County. Mrs. Seigler had graduated from Methodist University in Fayetteville, NC and then continued her education by earning her Masters Degree from Florida Southern College. She was very intelligent and had a passion for learning, reading, and teaching. Growing up at Camp Montgomery in Keystone Heights would also lead her to becoming a Counselor for the camp, and in her younger years, she was an avid water skier. Prior to her husband Donald Seigler passing away, Mrs. Seigler enjoyed helping on the Seigler farm. Survivors for Mrs. Seigler are her Nephew and Caregiver, Christopher Seigler of Melrose and her brother, Theron C. Hunter of Keystone Heights. Also left behind are numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home between 5 - 7p.m., Friday, January 16, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 in Paran Baptist Church, 125 Paran Church Rd., Grandin, FL 32138, with interment to follow at Paran Cemetery.
