Stanley Merrell Abercrombie

Mr. Stanley Merrell Abercrombie, 82 of Green Cove Springs, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Mr. Abercrombie was born December 24, 1937 in Plant City, Florida to parents R. E. and Clara (Powell) Abercrombie. Stan served in the United States Navy under the Top-Secret Naval Security Group during the Vietnam War. He was a proud and humble veteran and often loved to share stories about his time aboard the ships and submarines. His girls were the light of his life and he often would say he was "surrounded by females". An honest, hardworking man, who had the driest sense of humor, you just had to laugh. If you knew him, you will always remember he is STAN THE MAN. He enjoyed fishing, camping, going to the beach, building and remodeling, tinkering on computers, and could fix anything wrong with a car. He will forever be missed and remembered as the best husband, daddy, and papa there will ever be. His parents, siblings, David Alburn Abercrombie, and Betty Alderman, and son in law, Erik Miller preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife of 47 years, Doris Jeanette (Smith) Abercrombie, daughters, Amy Leah (Abercrombie) Miller and Melody Kay Abercrombie (Mark Bell), granddaughters, Alexis Kay Abercrombie-Methvin and Sydney Kay Abercrombie Cheeseman, as well as extended family and friends. The family will hold a time of visitation at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2020 in the Chapel of Helm-Gallagher Funeral home, 1811 Idlewild Avenue, SR 16, Green Cove Springs. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Ms. Melody Abercrombie officiating. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery. A special thanks to our hospice nurses, Felisha, Ragina, Armeshia, and Shermika, who so lovingly cared for Stanley and have become a big part of our family.
