Stephen Franklin "Sammy" Alvarez

Mr. Stephen Franklin "Sammy" Alvarez, Sr. age 84, of Starke passed away at his home Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He was born December 3, 1933 in Lake Butler to the late Leavy and Dollie (Dowling) Alvarez and had served in the United States Army. Mr. Alvarez was a longtime resident of Union and Bradford County areas. He was a retired poultry farmer and had also owned and operated Alvarez Trucking Company and was a heavy equipment operator for Olson Underground Electrical Company. Mr. Alvarez was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed being outdoors farming and taking care of the property. He also enjoyed the simple life, always "piddling" and never a dull moment, but most of all he loved being a husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Alvarezs son Stephen Franklin "Steve" Alvarez, Jr. had preceded him in death. Survivors are his wife of 59 years Janice (Blume) Alvarez and their daughter Dana Alvarez both of Starke; four grandchildren Leavy Alvarez, Jr. (Melissa), Ashley Alvarez, Austin Cole Whitehead and Gracie Alvarez. Also left behind are five great grandchildren Jakob, Justin, Shyann, Aidan and Morgan. Graveside services for Mr. Alvarez will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 9, 2018 with Pastor Roman Alvarez officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Zion-Swift Creek Cemetery in Lake Butler.
