Subhash Bhaskar

Subhash Bhaskar, 82, passed away peacefully in his home in Gainesville, FL surrounded by hisfamily on August 24, 2021. Born in Kollam in 1939, he was the fifth of fourteen children of AKBhaskar. His childhood was wonderfully chaotic with so many other siblings, and filled with love.His father's stress on the importance of education had an impactful effect on Subhash. He tookschool seriously and did so well that he qualified for engineering college. In 1961 he graduatedand began work as an electrical engineer. He worked in various parts of India throughout the60's.Graduating from college and getting a job were not the most important things to happen to himduring that time. In 1968, he married Vanaja. They had a traditional arranged marriage, so theyhad to learn about each other on the fly. The start of that learning began the couple's 53 yearpartnership - one full of adventure, love, and two children, Harish and Mahesh.In 1971, he emigrated to the United States. After experiencing a few cold Northeast winters, thefamily settled in southern California. Their time there was short lived as the company that heworked for, Parsons, offered him an opportunity to work in Saudi Arabia. Working there allowedhim to be closer to his family in India. It also allowed him to take his wife and children all overthe globe. Whether it was a road trip through Europe or a safari in Kenya, he wanted his kids toexperience as much of the world as possible.In 2004 he hung up his pocket calculator and retired to Gainesville, Florida. Much like themove to Saudi Arabia earlier in his life, this final move to Gainesville connected him againto his family as his brother, son, and nephews would all live close by. He enjoyed theproximity to family as that was a source of great joy for him. He will be remembered forhis kindness and jovial spirit. He is survived by his wife, Vanaja and children, Harish(Priya) and Mahesh (Jaimee); and 5 cherished grandchildren: Diya, Maya, Krishna,Ciaran and Devi; and 11 siblings and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
