Tammy Jane Sullivan-Paxson, aged 56, of Gainesville, Florida departed this world May 24, 2019. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Anne Paxson, and her son, John Anthony Paxson, also of Gainesville, her parents Mary Anne and Anthony Collura of The Villages, and her devoted service dog Buster. Tammy also leaves behind hundreds of school aged children who she read to and educated as a volunteer in the Alachua County Public School system since 1995. A lover of all things natural and oceanic, Tammy enjoyed sharing her love of marine life and the ocean as a volunteer educator and spent more than a decade as a Girl Scout troop leader and mentor. Among other accolades, Tammy was a Terwilliger Elementary Volunteer of the Year, an honored volunteer by the Ronald McDonald House of Gainesville, and a loving wife and mother. With her passing she joins her beloved husband and companion, Professor James John Paxson, who passed away in 2011. Tammy was generous with her time and effort, and always wanted to make others comfortable before herself. Her family is devastated at her loss, and asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance be made to the Alachua County Humane Society, where she adopted her faithful service animal prior to his training.
