Thelma M. Barnes, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday November 10, 2014 in Jacksonville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday November 12, 2014 at the graveside in Hague Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held for the hour prior to service at the graveside. Thelma was born in Gainesville on October 23, 1921 to Benjamin W. & Lola Hague Mott, the youngest of 13 children. A longtime Jacksonville resident, Mrs. Barnes was a member of Ft. Caroline Christian Church. Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ross E.Barnes; her grandson, Benjamin Clay Sparrow and her siblings, including her eldest sister, Nina Mae Harrison. She is survived by her daughter, Mary R. "Becky" Sparrow (Jack); her son, Robert Barnes (Mary Jane); her grandchildren Andee Sparrow, Lance Sparrow (Kim), Amy Vo (Quang) & L.B. Barnes; her great grandchildren Evin, Reed, Bryn, Chi & Meimei and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Thelma was very active in Florida Home Extinction Association for over 30 years. She was also a clerk of her voting precinct for over 30 years. She was a member of the San Jose Church of Christ for 40 years and only at the end did she move her membership to Fort Caroline Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Wounded Warrior Project or Vitas Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of George H.
