Mr. Theodore "Ted" H. Pettigrew 80 of Melrose passed away August 1, 2021, in Palatka following a brief illness. He was born May 20, 1941, Jacksonville to Winfred Willis and Pauline (Freedman) Pettigrew. In 1961 he enlisted in the United States Army serving with the 82nd Airborne Division and earning his Parachutist Badge. He then earned his BA degree and retired from Union Carbide as a Chemist. Mr. Pettigrew was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed gardening, growing plants, taking nature walks. He also enjoyed reading and was very intelligent. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years Marie Pettigrew in 2019 and their daughter Christine Pettigrew earlier this year. Survivors are his son Kevin Pettigrew of Metairie, LA and a sister in-law Andrea Shipley of Denver, North Carolina. He was lovingly call "PawPaw" by Brianna Spurgeon (Carl) and Charles Spurgeon of Palatka, Kevin "Drew" Pettigrew of Metairie, LA. The Funeral Mass for Mr. Pettigrew will be held at a later date in the St. William Catholic Church with Father Andy Mitera officiating. Interment will be in the Keystone Heights Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to the St. William Church in memory of Mr. Pettigrew.
