Thomas R. O'Brian

Mr. Thomas R. OBrian age 93, of Starke passed away at St. Vincents Riverside in Jacksonville on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 following a brief illness. Mr. OBrian was born in Clay, Kentucky on August 14, 1924 to the late Claude and Verble (Wiley) OBrian. He moved to Starke in 1946 from Evansville, Indiana following his discharge from military service. Thomas served in the United States Army during World War II and again during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a Civil Service employee for the Department of The Navy at Cecil Field Naval Air Station for 29 years, retiring as a telecommunications manager. Thomas also worked part-time for Jones Funeral Home for over 30 years. Mr. OBrian was a member of Grace Baptist Church and the National Association of Letter Carriers. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, fishing and shotgun sports. Preceding him in death was his daughter, Patsy Welch. Survivors are: his wife of 73 years, Wilma Hardenbrook OBrian, son, James OBrian (Bobbie Sue) all of Starke, son-in-law, Pat Welch of Graham, grandchildren, Rick Welch, Chad Welch (Laura), Lynn Lane and Amanda Welch. Also left behind are his great grandchildren, Christopher Welch (Megan), Gavin Welch, Peyton Welch, Preston Welch, Alexis Lane, Madison Elasik (Johnny), Finley Welch and great-great grandchildren, Ryker Welch, Sawyer Welch, and Ryleigh Elasik.The family will receive friends at the DEWITT C. JONES CHAPEL of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with funeral services beginning at 11 oclock. Interment will follow in Crosby Lake Cemetery with Pastor Mike Moore officiating all services.
