Obituary for Tommie L. McNair

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Tommie L. McNair, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on May 4, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on April 15, 1939, in Alabama, Tommie dedicated her life to nurturing those around her while making significant contributions in the field of education.

Tommie pursued her academic ambitions with great pride, earning her bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, where she was a distinguished member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Her love for learning and commitment to education led her to a fruitful career as an Administrative Coordinator at UF Gainesville, where she touched the lives of countless students and faculty alike with her kindness and dedication. Tommie was also a past President of the Florida Music Teachers Association and taught piano.

A resident of Gainesville, Florida, Tommie was known for her warm personality. She is survived by her daughter Gina K. Martin, her son, Jack D. McNair, Jr., and her daughter, Vitrell Lynn McNair-Sherif. Tommie cherished her role as a grandmother to two grandchildren and a great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren.

Cremation has been entrusted to Forest Meadows Funeral Home and Cemetery at 725 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32609.
