Mrs. Velmarie Vel Dukes Edwards, age 77 of Starke, passed away, Sunday, June 16, 2013. She was born July of 1935 to the late Edgar and Leona (Tillman) Dukes in Providence, Florida. Mrs. Edwards was a member of Starke Church of Christ; the Womans Club of Starke and was a longtime volunteer for North Central Florida Hospice. She enjoyed cooking and caring for all. Mrs. Edwards is survived by her husband of 59 years, Curtis Guy Edwards, 2 daughters, Rhonda Pulling and husband, Brian of Lakeland and Shan deNeergaard and husband, Tom of Atlanta, GA, a sister, Bessie Lee Brookins of Greeneville, TN, 2 brothers, J.C. Dukes and wife, Judy of Starke and John Dukes and wife, Margie of Hampton. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 20, 2013 in the DeWitt C. Jones Chapel of Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home with Brother C.L. Overturf, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends and a time of viewing will take place 10:00 AM Thursday until time of services at 11:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Crosby Lake Cemetery. hide
