Vera Lee Jones Funeral services for Mrs. Vera Lee Jones, 89, will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, July 25, 2012 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Boulevard, South, with Pastor Paul Malone and Pastor Rey Hernandez of First Coast Missionary Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends, at the funeral home, one hour prior to the funeral service. Her cremains will be inurned beside her first husband, William C. Salen, in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Born January 23, 1923 in Clermont, Georgia, to Asba and Hester Botts, Mrs. Jones died Monday, July 23, 2012 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was a member of First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, Florida, past president of the St. Petersburg Womans Club, past St. Petersburg Queen of Hearts for the American Heart Association, a member of the St. Petersburg Service League, the St. Petersburg Chamber of Commerce, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a noted philanthropist in the St. Petersburg area for over 30 years. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by three husbands, William C. Salen, William L. Brantley, and Luther R. Jones, Jr., and a son, Timothy Bruce Salen.
