Mrs. Verlyn F. Powell, 88 of Gainesville passed away peacefully on November 15th, 2014 surrounded by family and her dog "Scooter". Mrs. Powell was born in Erwin, TN on April 5th, 1926. Verlyn moved to Miami, FL as a teenager with her parents and younger sister. She eventually married her husband of 50 plus years, Charles Powell and raised her daughter Sharyn. Verlyn worked as a manager of Sears Roebuck in Coral Gables, where she retired after 30 years of service.Mrs. Powell's earlier retirement years were spent with her husband Chuck in their mountain home near Asheville, NC. She moved to Gainesville in 1999.Verlyn is survived by her nephew Skip Walker of Gainesville and her nieces Kim Walker and Penny Chandler.
