Obituary

Obit: Vernon Dick Leo StarlingMr. Vernon Leo Dick Starling, 78 a lifelong resident of Bradford County died at the E.T. York Hospice Center in Gainesville on Sunday, September 13, 2009 following and extended illness. Mr. Starling was born in Starke on March 11, 1931 to the late Lonzo R. and Villa (Norman) Starling. Prior to retirement, Dick worked for the Division of Surplus Property for 34 years, he served in the National Guard for 9 years and was also a farmer. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Lawtey where he served as Deacon for 45 years. Mr. Starling is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty (Norman) Starling and their children: Joseph Starling and Brenda Rosier both of Lawtey and Nora Thompson of Starke. He is also survived by his sisters: Inez Batten of Port St. Lucie, Naomi Starling of Starke, and Ruby Harris of Jacksonville; one brother, Carlos Norman of Lawtey; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Viewing for Mr. Starling will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, 7-9 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Lawtey, 1863 Adams St. Lawtey, FL 32058. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 11 oclock in the Fist Baptist Church of Lawtey with the Reverend Lester Austin and Pastor Jody Hodnett officiating. Burial will follow at the Kingsley Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Haven Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 NW 90th Blvd. Gainesville, FL 32606.
