Virgil Steven Banciu Turke

Mr. Virgil Steven Banciu Turke, age 72, of Keystone Heights passed away at Shands Hospital in Starke Monday, December 18, 2017. He was born in Romania on March 26, 1945 and had served in the United States Army. Mr. Turke had been a longtime resident of Keystone Heights prior to moving to Miami. Prior to his retirement he was a Police Officer with the City of Keystone Heights, and was instrumental with organizing security patrol with the local schools. Mr. Turke was of the Methodist faith and a member of Moose Lodge and AmVets. He also enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR racing. Preceding him in death were his parents, George J. and Helen (Podmaniski) Turke. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ana "Anita" ( Arzate ) Turke; four children, Gil Banciu (Lori) of St. Augustine, Christeen Haney (Shawn) of Keystone Heights, Laura Hernandez (Carlos) of Homestead and Javier Turke of Fontana, California. Also left behind is a brother, George Turke (Mackie) of Tennessee and a sister, Tavi Turke Slevinski of Pensacola, along with six grandchildren, Taylor Haney, Naomi Proctor, Emma Haney, Daisy Hernandez, Diego Hernandez, and Conner Cruz. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Florida National Cemetery in Jacksonville.
