Virginia C. Alexander, 87, longtime resident of Jacksonville passed away on May 23rd. She was born in Warwick, GA, the tenth of eleven children, to Dave and Annie Belle Champion. Raised on a dirt poor farm in the depression she changed the lives of everyone she met with her smile and kindness. She is survived by Darlene Cowen of St. Augustine, Jean Phillips of Dawnville, GA, Gene Dupree of Doerun, GA, Don DuPree of Chicago, and ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughter Cathi James and husband D.T. Alexander. Mom was our greatest gift, the North Staralways there to guide us--dependable, strong and shining brightly. She loved the Lord, family, friends, home, history, walks, birds, a good story, dessert and Elvis. She never met a stranger. Her doctor called weekly just to talk. She was the unofficial "Mayor of Live Oak Manor" and a friend to everyone. The preacher next doors three-legged dog "Shags" loved her so much the preacher buried "Shags" in her backyardwith a full service. Her favorite night was her surprise 80th birthday party. She joined 140 friends and family dancing to the beat of--you guessed it--an Elvis impersonator. There was no one like her. We thank God for her. Viewing will be at George H.
