Virginia D. Ray Virginia D. Ray, 89, passed away Monday August 19, 2013 in Jacksonville. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday August 22, 2013 in the chapel of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., S. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service hour. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.Virginia was born in Deerfield Beach, FL on September 21, 1923 to Earle & Nella Day. A long-time resident of Jacksonville, she moved to Jacksonville at age 6 after a hurricane destroyed the family home in Deerfield Beach. Virginia graduated from Landon High School and attended Jones College. She retired from J.E.A. after a 20 year career. Virginia was devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; 2 brothers and her beloved husband, Robert L. Ray, Jr. She is survived by her children Jane Howe, Donald Ray, Susan Busch (Mark), Sheryl Miles (Lawton), Karen Selvera & Barry Ray (Susan); 7 grandchildren Joel, Dana, Bryan, Amy, Ashley, Zola & Robert; 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & extended family.Arrangements are under the direction of George H.
