Lt. Col. Walter B. Oliver, III FLARNG, Retired age 83 of Starke passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020. Mr. Oliver was born on October 13, 1936 in Charleston, SC. Mr. Walter was a graduate of Suwannee County High School. He was also a graduate of The Citadel and went on the serve 36 years in the Florida Army National Guard achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Walter later worked for Liberty National Life Insurance and later received his CDL license where he drove for Mayflower Transit and Auto Panache. While working for Auto Panache his grandchildren, Niki and Jared had the opportunity to spend quality time with their granddad transporting exotic cars across the United States. Mr. Walter also enjoyed guns, hunting, and riding motorcycles.He was preceded in death by his father, Walter B. Oliver, II; mother, Mae Gaston; and his sister Beth Morrison. Survivors include his wife, Lynell Oliver of Starke; daughter, Tammy (Andy) England of Quitman, GA; son, Walter (Debbie) Oliver, IV of Rome, GA; step-children, Brenda (Victor) Griffis of Starke, Susan (James) Harris of Old Town, and Kim (Michael) Jackson of Starke; step-mother, Eunice Oliver of Charleston, SC; brothers, Paige Oliver, Keith Oliver, and Kevin Oliver all of Charleston, SC; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020 at Madison Street Baptist Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Charles Warren officiating. A visitation will be preceding the services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Crosby Lake Cemetery with Military Honors.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Madison Street Baptist Church Building Fund in the honor of Mr. Walter B.
