Walter J.G. Hays, Jr.

Walter Hays passed away on October 14, 2016 at the Community Hospice Earl B. Hadlow Center for Caring. He was born on October 28, 1920. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Lucille N. Hays; his son, Steven W. Hays (Marge) and his niece, Ellen Hays Hall (Tom). He was preceded in death by his brother, William L. Hays.A native of Sewickley, PA, Walt was a graduate of Shady Side Academy. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII for which he received a Purple Heart.Walt and family moved from Bloomington, IL in 1954 when State Farm Insurance Company opened its regional office in Jacksonville. He was an active member in the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA) now the Association of Information Technology Professionals- including serving as International Director for the Southeast Region.He was a charter member of the Jacksonville Blood Bank and a member of Baymeadows CrossRoad United Methodist Church.The family expresses its appreciation to the personnel at Baptist South Hospital, Brooks Rehabilitation, Bartram Lakes and Community Hospices Hadlow Center.Following a service at George H.
