Mr. Warney Monroe "Coach" Adkinson, age 88, of Starke passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at Riverwood Health & Rehabilitation. Mr. Adkinson was born on October 2, 1927 in Clayton, Alabama to the late Warren and Ossie (Bennett) Adkinson. He was a Baptist and served in the United States Navy during World War II. After graduating from Troy State Teachers College (Troy State University), he coached and taught math in Cottondale, FL. In 1957, Coach Adkinson moved to Blountstown, FL where he coached football, baseball, was head basketball coach and taught math before moving to Starke, FL in 1965 as head basketball coach, assistant football and taught math. He later coached golf until his retirement in 1982. He remained active in the community for many years, as well as sold vehicles at Terwillegar Motors. Coach Adkinson was a member of the American Legion in Starke, the National Retired Teachers Association, the Florida Sheriffs Association, and the Florida Retired Educators Association. Preceding him in death was his wife of 64 years, Philomena Yolanda (Chiachiarette) Adkinson. Survivors are: his daughter, Dianne A. Williams of Valdosta, GA, grandchildren: Micayle Baggett (Eric) of Lawrenceville, GA, Kevin Williams of Columbia, SC, Erin Taylor (Shawn) of Palm Coast, great grandchildren: Ashlyn Baggett, Patrick Baggett, Mahaley Williams and Emma Taylor.
