Wayne F. Hollingsworth ("Opa") was born the oldest of three sons to Morris and Mildred Hollingsworth in Fort White, Florida on February 4, 1946. At the age of seventy-seven, he passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in Gainesville, Florida. Early that morning, the clouds opened and he was ushered to heaven and saw the glory of God.
In 1967, Wayne married Linda, and they went on to have three children, Killi Rumore (Troy Rumore), Vicki Johnson (Shane Johnson), and Jason Hollingsworth (Amber Hollingsworth). He was greatly blessed and is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and his youngest brother Troy Hollingsworth. He worked hard to make sure they were taken care of and felt loved every day.
Wayne was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He was a graduate of Fort White High School in Fort White, Florida. From there, he served in the United States Army and went on to graduate from the University of Florida. He was a stockbroker with Merrill Lynch, Prudential Bache, Paine Webber, and was the Vice President of regional sales with Campbell & Company (Managed Futures).
Wayne was full of life and loved spending time with his family, teaching Sunday School, fishing with his grandchildren and following UF football recruiting. He was also a wonderful storyteller and known by many children for his famous magic trick.
Wayne had a passion for helping and ministering to others. He supported the Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Haiti Missions. He served as a deacon and taught Sunday School.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Mildred Hollingsworth, and his younger brother, Dale Hollingsworth.
A visitation will be held for friends and family at 1:00pm on Friday, September 29, 2023 at First Baptist Church, High Springs, Florida. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church, High Springs. Burial will follow the funeral service at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Fort White, Florida.
