Wendell G. HannumWendell Gene Hannum age 76, born in Boone, Iowa on December 18, 1935, left this world to be with the Lord in heaven November 17, 2012. Wendell was an extremely hard worker which he learned from his parents. In 1953 he married Janet Auld. From this union three children were born. They then moved to Marshalltown Iowa and began his career with Iowa Power & Light. He left Iowa Power & Light due to a love he had for working on anything with a motor. Wendell opened his first business Custom body shop then a Kawasaki motorcycle & snowmobile dealership and both were located in Marshalltown Iowa. In 1978 he sold his business and headed south to Floridas Space Coast area for some warmer weather and began working in the concrete pumping business. While there he became certified in scuba diving and married his instructor, Vicky. They grew to love scuba diving so much that they became partners in a scuba shop, American Divers International, Inc. of Merritt Island, Florida. In 1983 he moved his family to the Lake Worth area where he and Vicky started their own branch of American Divers International, Inc. Wendell was the Captain of the Manta Ray and loved taking fellow scuba divers out for trips. He was an avid spear fisherman and always enjoyed having fresh fish and lobster. After selling the scuba shop Wendell put his focus back on the concrete pumping business and worked for a large company in Pompano Beach. He pumped the concrete for many of the high rises located around south Florida. In 1992 Wendell moved his family to northern Florida and American Canoe Adventures, Inc. was born. ACA is a canoe & kayak livery with private campground. While ACA continued to grow, he continued working for a concrete business out of Jacksonville until 1996. He volunteered weekly to assist in efforts focused on the tourism of White Springs. Wendell was also dedicated to keeping up with the Suwannee River levels, which he checked every week. In August 2012 his grandson Kyle asked him which business he enjoyed the most he answered ACA because it is very peaceful and quiet. He was a faithful member of White Springs First Baptist Church. A few years back, Wendell renovated and donated a school bus to the youth group at his church. Wendell loved to watch football and NASCAR. Wendell is preceded in death by his mother Evelyn N. Bancroft, his father George W. Hannum and his brother-in-law Roger Pete Maas. Wendell is survived by his children John M. (Tricia) Hannum of White Springs, Florida, Wendy (Randy) Arwood of Appleton City, Missouri, Jodi (Derrick) Mears of Bellingham, Washington, John R. Hannum of Long Beach, California, and Tifani (Joe Paul) Hood of High Springs, Florida. Wendell has eight grand children and six great grand children. He also leaves behind siblings Anne Maas of Keystone Heights, Florida, George (Judy) Hannum of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Steven (Linda) Bancroft of Springfield, Illinois, Jay (Rita) Bancroft of Humboldt, Iowa, and Patricia (John) Anderson of Johnston, Iowa. Wendell will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. There will be a celebration of Wendells life on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at White Springs First Baptist Church 16401 Camp Avenue, White Springs, Florida 32096.
